Dale Lee Hanssen
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Dale Lee Hanssen, age 61, of Niagara, ND, went home to be with Jesus suddenly on August 17, 2010 while swathing wheat near Dahlen, ND.
Dale was born September 9, 1948, the son of Gregor and Loretta (Behm) Hanssen in Grand Forks. He was baptized and confirmed in Christian faith at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Niagara. He attended school in Niagara and Petersburg, graduating from Unity High School in 1966. He then took the Ag Short Course at NDSU to prepare him for his future in farming.
Dale married Kathy Johnson on November 7, 1975 in Niagara, only because he didn't get a deer hunting license that year. He always said he got a trophy "Dear" that year. He loved to hunt deer, pheasant, geese, and ducks and loved reliving the "Big Hunt" with those he hunted with and those he didn't! He took great pride in teaching his son Jamie the art and enjoyment of hunting. He loved his God, his family, and the land the Good Lord gave him. Dale loved to sing and make us laugh, comforting everyone in time of crisis. Dale's newest and greatest source of pride was his grandson Brayden, often praying for a rain shower so he could spend more time with him. Where Brayden went Grandpa was sure to follow!
He loved and was loved. He will be dearly missed by his wife Kathy of nearly 35 years, his parents Gregor and Loretta Hanssen, Niagara. His children, Angela and David Steffan of Michigan, ND; Amber and Sean Rauschendorfer, Grand Forks; his number one son Jamie of Niagara and his beloved grandson Brayden Rauschendorfer. Dale is also survived by his sister Diane and her husband Jeff Falin, of Rapid City, SD; his mother-in-law Carol Johnson of Lakota, ND and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
