Fiona Mary Chapman
Fiona Mary Chapman
An admirable mother, a loving sister and daughter, an outgoing friend and above all, forever cherished and missed.
Fiona was born in July of 2003 and was the youngest of 4 children. From a very young age Fiona showed she had very few fears and growing up she was often riding quads and dirt bikes, building treehouses, going on bike rides with her friends and cousins, going swimming and having lemonade stands with her sister and cousins. Barbies and dress-up was rarely something you could talk her into doing, she was the definition of a tomboy and was never shy to be herself around everyone. Fiona loved swimming and being in the water, even in the spring months where the creeks and lakes were freezing cold to most people, she would jump in and swim any chance she could get. She wasn’t afraid to get dirty, she would come inside covered in dirt and mud after playing at her Nanny and Papa’s farm and that would never change. As Fiona got older her drive to work grew with her. Between walking dogs around the block, picking blueberries in the summer or having hundreds of lemonade stands every year, she was always finding ways to make money and fill her days.
Driving up at Stave was Fionas second home. Most spring and summer weekends you could find her up there spending time with her brothers, her sister and friends. She made so many friends at Stave, she made friends almost everywhere she went including many 4x4 events around the Fraser Valley. Camping was a common way Fiona would spend her weekends and the quadding and biking around the flats was added excitement and fun for her family and friends. Fiona was a music lover and as you will see in a few of the memorial videos, she was funny and loved to dance and goof around to make people laugh. She would put on her favourite song and put on a performance (she was honestly the best impromptu dancer I know) and her silly dances are something a lot of people can fondly remember about her.
Not only was she fun, sassy and exciting to be around, she was strong and fearless. She wasn’t shy to tell you how she felt, she was honest and would find ways to make a situation better or adapt to overcome issues she faced. She was smart and a fast learner, most times picking up a new skill came effortlessly. She didn’t have excuses, she didn’t push blame to other people for situations that could have held her back, she took what she had and built onto it to create a better life for herself. Despite any hurdles she faced in life she was always grateful for what she had, and her family meant everything to her. Fiona was a fierce lover and supporter and her relationships with her brothers Jeremy and Justin, her sister Breanne and her dad Mike were something she never neglected.
Fionas bond with her brothers was something out of an action-packed adventure movie. Driving, riding bikes and quads, 4x4ing and getting her hands dirty was something she picked up from watching her brothers growing up and kept their bond close and exciting. Although she was quite a bit younger than them, she was often seen in the passenger seat while Jeremy or Justin would be off ripping through pits deeper than she could even walk through at the time. Working on engines and building fires were skills Fiona would learn from them and by the time she was 10 you could find her working on her own little projects or driving herself around the flats following right in their footsteps. She fit in like she was “one of the boys” out in those fields and flats and she lit up any event she came to.
Being so close in age and similar looks to her sister Breanne, they were often mistaken as twins growing up, a situation they found fun in. They shared clothes, played together at school during recess and shared a bedroom for years. They spent a large majority of their time together and you would rarely see one without the other by their side. There was the usual sister rivalry and bickering over clothes and who got to play with who, but Fiona looked up to Breanne and would take inspiration from watching how she acted and always wanted to be involved in her friendships and activities. Growing up together as close as they were was something you would see in cliché teenage girl movies but for them it was everyday normal life. When you thought of one, you thought of them both because of how close they were. With both Breanne and Fiona being pregnant and becoming mothers at the same time they hit milestones together, first times and life changing experiences that they could lean on one another for, and when things seemed hard or daunting, they had each other. It was an experience words can hardly describe. Graduating from the same school and entering adult life together was when their bond was at its closest and strongest and they really were the best friends they each could ask for, it was unbreakable. Fiona had many friendships but nothing could ever come closer than the bond she shares with her sister. They cheered each other on, supported each other in hard times and created memories that can never be touched or forgotten. No bond or friendship can ever come close to that of what they will always have together.
In 2021 Fiona had 2 major accomplishments. Not only did she graduate a year early with the help of her supportive teachers and friends, she had a reason to motivate herself even more because she gave birth to her daughter Scarlett that same year.
From the minute Scarlett was born you could see a light in Fionas eyes that I don’t think anyone had seen before. Fiona had always loved being around children and was an amazing aunt to her nephew Parker, always wanting to help out and spend time with him whenever possible but this love was unlike anything she had known before. Scarlett opened a part of Fionas heart that I don’t think she even knew was possible. Being a young mother is daunting and comes with a lot of unknowns and stresses, but Fiona never let it slow her down and she grew into the role of being a mother comfortably and with grace. Anyone who knew Fiona could see the love she has for her daughter, and she took so much pride in Scarlett. A month later Fiona’s second nephew was born. Finley and Scarlett became built in best friends and spent so much time together they could basically be siblings, very similar to the way her sister and her had grown up even being mistaken as twins. Breanne and Fiona made sure to create a bond between themselves and their children that could never be broken. They took them on trips, countless playdates, sleepovers, adventures to the beach and took photos that will forever show the love and closeness they have.
In the most recent years Fiona had been working and maturing at a rate that everyone was blown away by. She even went on her first vacation with her boyfriend and she loved every second of it. She went snorkeling, site seeing and really embraced the romantic and relaxing trip. She turned 20, she celebrated, she was enjoying working and planning for the future with her daughter. She dreamed of being a heavy duty equipment operator which was right up her alley and would have been the perfect fit for her. The love will never end, the memories will never fade and her love for her family and daughter are timeless.
