Neil & Ellen Rogers
Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.
Neil and Ellen married on November 4, 1951. Together they lovingly raised four children, and shared over sixty years of marriage.
Wanting the best for his family, Neil worked night and day to provide for them. He started with Cecil Maxwell, delivering milk for Riverside Dairy for twelve years. He then worked as a custodian at Chesterville Elementary Schools, while Ellen served as the secretary. For the last twenty five years of his career, he worked as a salesman for G & L Supply Company, selling janitorial supplies and office equipment. He retired in 1991.
As a hobby, Neil farmed on the side, growing grain and hay on his several acre farm. Also, in his younger years, he loved to fish, hunt and go camping with his brothers.
Very faithful, Neil and Ellen were members of Chesterville United Methodist Church and also enjoyed attending Harmony Chapel United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Highland Lions Club for many years.
Snowbirds, Neil and Ellen enjoyed wintering in Zephyr Hills, Florida, for six years where they made many dear friends, until they were no longer able due to their health.
To Neil, his family was everything. He dedicated his life to Ellen and their children, and was proud to support her dreams of being a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in her 50s. They always looked forward to their monthly dinners with cousins. He also "thought the world of his grandchildren," cherishing every moment spent with them.
Ellen had worked for several years at North Electric in Mount Gilead, and had served as a secretary in the Chesterville Elementary Schools for over ten years.
In her 50's, Ellen made the choice to follow her dreams, going back to school to become a nurse. Soon after earning her nursing degree to be a licensed practical nurse (LPN), she quickly found her passion and niche to be in geriatric care.
She proudly worked at the Morrow Manor Nursing Home, where she doted over and sang to each of the residents. She brought comfort to her elderly friends, helping them to find peace with their new challenges and realities. For Ellen, "becoming a nurse meant everything to her", and it was truly her proudest accomplishment in life.
A woman of many talents, Ellen could sew most anything you could think of. She enjoyed making clothes for her family, and especially looked forward to making costumes for her grandchildren at Halloween. She also had a knack in the kitchen, making wonderful meals and baking many treats. For many years, she also baked cakes for friends and at Kroger's in Mount Gilead when it first opened.
