Melvin Leon Kirkham, born on October 20, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah, left an indelible mark as a devoted family man and accomplished professional. Graduating from Lehi High in 1953, Mel embraced student affairs and athletics, excelling in basketball, track, and tennis, while nurturing his passion for gardening. An Eagle Scout and talented musician, he formed The Mel Kirkham Band in high school, later playing professionally with bands like The Blue Notes and The Corsairs. After a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mel married his love, Lueen Peterson, in 1958, setting the foundation for a family that grew to seven children, 28 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
Mel's distinguished banking career included leadership roles at Valley Bank and Trust, Zions Bank, and service on the Board of Directors for the Bank of American Fork. A man of deep faith, he served his church faithfully, undertaking a second mission to Hawaii alongside Lueen. Mel's love for jazz, impeccable gardening, golfing, hunting, and fishing were complemented by his commitment to family traditions, ensuring strong ties through annual reunions and cherished events. His passing on June 5, 2023, leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and enduring family bonds.
