Life story
Kathy Jane Phillips Murphy, age 66, of Lafayette, TN was a loving wife and mother died peacefully surrounded by family on March 11, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. She was born August 5, 1956 to the late, Rev. M.G Phillips and Susie Walker Phillips of Watertown, Tennessee. She worked for Lee Jean Company, Bridgestone, and as a security guard. Her greatest loves were her grandchildren and Sonic (the dog). Kathy loved to sing with her brother and spend many days and nights listening to her dad preach. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Dale Murphy.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory:
Sons – Chris Murphy (Jennifer) of Westmoreland, TN and Troy Murphy (Catherine) of Spring Hill, TN
Daughter – Christina Murphy Leone (Matt) of Lafayette, TN.
Nephews – Wayne Phillips (Donna) and Lane Phillips both of Watertown, TN
*This page is in dedication to her memory and her legacy. May this be a lasting reminder of what a great mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and woman she was.
"Well, Mom, Christmas is approaching in a few days. I've been contemplating and reflecting these past few days, thinking about what you might be experiencing, especially leading up to Jesus's birthday as we observe it here on earth. If I could ask one challenging question, it would be about the significance of December—do they celebrate Christmas in heaven? I understand it wouldn't be the same as here on earth, but I wonder if there are any similarities.
I just wanted to update you that everyone here is doing okay, but we miss you deeply. We're ensuring that all the kids will have a wonderful Christmas together. Chris, Christina, and I are getting along better than ever before. We make an effort to check in with each other every other day. All your grandkids are thriving. The only major thing coming up next year is that Austin will have surgery and Zach might require surgery. However, we trust that God will keep them safe, address their concerns, and restore them completely. I stand firm on His word and promises.
Sorry to take your way for a moment but continue on what you were doing, Mom. We love you dearly."
When it came to seeing Grandma it didn’t matter if I had the worst week of my life I would always feel happy when I saw her she had a contagious smile and loving heart and this was one of my most favorite pictures I took with her
My mother-in-law and I had a very unique and close relationship. We loved to laugh together…which usually meant we were teasing each other and calling each other ‘old lady’. We loved watching horror movies together even at Christmas time. I miss her laugh and all the funny things she would say to me. She was a great friend to me and I loved her very much. Thank you, Kathy, for raising an amazingly loving man for me!
One of my favorite photos with Grandma Kathy is one with her and my grandmother on my mom’s side (T.T / Linda Long). I cherish this photo because I think it is special to have this generational photo from both sides of my family.
