(From his obituary) My son Kiran Talluri Ferrer passed away at 6AM in Barcelona after a tough struggle with a type of Leukaemia called T-ALL. He turned 17 years yesterday.
When the cancer struck he was a handsome, pacific, funny, tall and beautiful boy, adored and deeply loved by everyone who came to know him. In his fight with the cancer, a fight in which I had the privilege of accompanying him, he transformed into something sublime before my eyes.
You may say there is no virtue in suffering. But to say that you must be blessed with good health and not be a sixteen year old boy on the cusp of life, at the edge of becoming his own man, struck out of nowhere one day by this aggressive hopeless crippling disease.
There is nobleness and divinity in how he confronted the disease, the horrid treatments, the tremendous disappointments—and oh god, the pain, just the pain—with calm, without fear, never self-pity or blame or hate, nor asking why-me, grateful for the care and worrying about us, me Cris and his sisters Uma, Nila and Asha, and our life afterwards.
He died peacefully surrounded by his family, and I hope finally has achieved some rest and relief. We are grateful for the the joy and happiness he has brought us in his brief seventeen years with us and will try to emulate him and live according to what he has showed us on how to face adversity.
Kiran was a lovely guy to have known. Without knowing him personally well enough, I would walk the same way with him to and from school for five years. I was always late so would hope to see him so I would know I’m early enough like him. Must have been a bad warning if he saw me cos I was always late haha. He seemed very handsome and intelligent, but naturally reserved. We had a mutual friends and I luckily got the opportunity to build him a well abroad in India, our shared & common heritage.
Haven’t been able to walk back to the same park or past the Queen’s Park station in years until recently and finally managed the courage to walk to the park today. Someone must have come over to leave flowers just before my visit with my younger sister.
Lots of love, warmth and blessings upon him and his family.
We’re with you in every step, from school days and every moment in this life to the next.
May God have mercy on his soul, reward him and his family with lots of blessings for their patience, intelligence and maturity.

A memory from mum
I remember when we were in Singapore and heard the bad news Kiran said "No worries, mum. At least it didn't happen to little Asha. I wouldn't have survived being forced to witness her suffering and imminent death". Kiran and Asha were always together and he was the older brother making sure she was alright. They would play all kind of games and were best friends and lovable siblings.
17th of April
The day my son Kiran died.
2 years of the cruellest absence.
2 years not hearing your voice, touching your hands, kissing your hair.
It will never get easier.
You are further away
Each day.
And I don't forget
How death came to You
With such cruelty
With no mercy
And the dignity
Serenity
And calm you showed
To embrace the end of your body.
Never the end of your Soul - as I know it is there, in every corner of this beautiful Universe.
"No tenir por de la mort.
Deixar-se ajudar" [tr: “Not to be afraid of Death. To let others help yourself” says the final picture written by you on your final days.
Trying to understand things you learnt from cancer.
Give me strength, my son, light, peace and wisdom to face my present, my future, our death, too.
Our future.
I love you Kiran.
Forever.
Your mama
