WAYNE Joseph Hughes
Thank you for your service
WAYNE served in the armed forces. We honor that service here.
My Father Wayne Hughes grew up in Cedar Falls(North Cedar area) was a proud Marine that served his Country from 1968-1969 being deployed to Vietnam. My mother was pregnant while he was serving and received the news by letter in Vietnam in the heavy fighting area I (Rob) was born May of 1969. I still have the original letter. Government hand written note, that basically says "son was born, baby healthy and the date, that's it. After discharge he finally got to see me at 6 months old. He always said, I cried my eyes out the first time I saw him because I knew that sleeping in my moms bed every night for 6 months was over.. LOL!
He later remarried to my Step Mother Barb and gained a step daughter and I gained my first sibling Serenity! He had total 5 grand children.
Diagnosed with ALS in 2013 stemming from Agent Orange in Vietnam he stayed somewhat healthy(besides weakness and muscle loss). Started developing issues with his throat later on. He smoked all his life. He was not one to go to Doctors. Dad ended up passing in his home 7/30/21. Thanks to my Step Mom "a Saint" for taking care of him till the end and allowing him to pass in peace at their home.
I still think about him daily, one of most entertaining guys around, always had the best jokes, sang funny songs and ready to drink a Beer with friends or me anytime of the day. Always a great Saturday when him and I would watch a Iowa Hawkeye game in the "Man Cave" his garage which was his daily hang out.
Miss you Dad hope we can meet again,
Your Son
