Caleb James Wayne Calvert
You brought music into our lives.
Caleb had a great sense of humor and was so smart. He was a loyal friend. He was shy, but he always went up and talked to that quiet person off by himself that was maybe ignored by others or maybe a little shyer than himself. He listened to people and asked questions to genuinely get to know them. He loved history and loved talking with elderly especially veterans - listening to their stories. So much so that two different vets gave Caleb some of their memorabilia they saved from wars they were in - WWII and Vietnam. He treasured those gifts.
He traveled to many countries including Australia, Jamaica, Aruba, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Azores, France, Vatican City, Montecarlo. He sailed down the Nile and walked in the pyramids in Egypt. He did a controlled free fall off of the tallest building in the Southern hemisphere in New Zealand. He white water rafted in Alaska. He saw live volcanoes in Hawaii. He canoed and kayaked. By 16 years old he was a certified scuba diver. He loved to scuba dive off the coast in Mexico. He loved Mexico.
He said Mexico was his favorite place with the exception of Avondale Park (his happy place from his earliest childhood memories all the way through adulthood) and, of course, as an adult he also loved the Denton Downtown Square. He also frequented any place that had live music.
He lived life to its fullest. He was quiet, but so adventurous and talented. He picked up a guitar and taught himself to play. He played everyday for many years. He studied music on his own, teaching himself theory and history. He studied musicians and bands and could even hold his own in conversations with Juilliard professors. He put in his 10,000 hours playing guitar. They say it takes 10,000 hours to become a master. He was. But he could also could hold his own on drums, mandolin, banjo, ukulele. He was teaching himself to play piano as well. His musical interests and range were evident in the fact that he started a jazz band and a punk band. He played his guitar and sang blues and pop, 50's rock and roll, everything by the Beatles, and even K-pop. He wrote many of his own songs as well. And he could sing. Oh what a beautiful voice.
Caleb had a way with the written word. He was gifted with musical talent. He was surrounded by family and friends in his life who loved him dearly. He was an amazing young man with a lot of potential.
