“Grandma Lola”
Life story

Lola was born on January 21, 1955 in Carroll, IA, and she was the daughter of Leonard and Lucille (Broich) Fischer. She grew up in Carroll and graduated from Kuemper High School 1973. Lola was married to Gary Tigges on December 27, 1975 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church by Fr. Leo Lenz. The couple made their home in Dedham for three years. They moved to Coon Rapids in 1979 where she had a daycare in her home for over 15 years. Lola also worked for the Family Resource Center in Carroll and the Coon Rapids – Bayard Elementary School and was known as “Grandma Lola”. Lola was very active Relay for Life for Team Bass and always catered their roast beef fundraiser dinner. Lola was also in charge of a wonderful Christmas blessing to those kids who are less fortunate. She created a program where she organized and bought necessities for families to create the Christmas magic! She enjoyed cooking, baking, going to garage sales, camping, crafting, shopping, and most of all being the best Grandma ever!!

Lola is survived by her husband Gary of Coon Rapids; six children and their families: Shelley Klocke of Willey, Jen Dougall (Steve) of Coon Rapids, Kristy Bass (Ryan) of Coon Rapids, twins Katie Lahr (Josh) of Carroll and Kari Taylor (Chad) of Phoenix, AZ, and Scott Tigges (Albina) of Coon Rapids; nineteen grandchildren: Connor, Jacob, Sam, Nathan, Cody, Cale, Lauren, Brynn, Paige, Ashtyn, Brooklyn, Kendyl, Brielle, Teagen, Gavin, Brylin, Tage, Bostyn, and Trice; her sister Linda Beidler of Mesa, AZ; a sister-in-law Mary Daiker of Carroll; two brothers-in-law: Allan Tigges (Pat) of Willey and Kevin Tigges (Barb) of Mt. Carmel; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Library Books in Honor of Grandma Lola!

Known as “Grandma Lola” to all the students at Coon Rapids-Bayard, the school district decided to do something very special in her honor. The librarian asked a few of her grandkids what their favorite book was that Grandma read to them. These books pictured are just a few top hits at Grandma’s house and new books were donated by her fellow coworkers and dedicated in her honor! She definitely made a difference everywhere she went and we’re so proud to have these books in the library in memory of her!
