Life story

Astrid Joyce Lewis and her twin Sorin Jay Lewis were both conceived from IUI. Their parents Dylan and Haley Lewis tried having kids for 3 years with 2 miscarriages prior. During the cycle that would create Astrid and Sorin they would be told they had a 1% chance and shouldn’t move forward with the IUI. They pushed to move forward with the IUI. Weeks later found they were having Twins. Astrid had a smaller sack and was watched closely. After 10 weeks strong we were told nothing was wrong and Astrid and Sorin were perfect. To learn the genders we went to Fetal Fotos in American Fork where the technician told us to call our doctor right away. We didn’t think anything of it and they called our doctor who had us come in for an emergency appointment. That is when we were told Astrid may die and was passed onto Maternal fetal medicine where we found that Astrid had Triploidy and should not have survived past 4 weeks gestation. Astrid fought until 26 weeks gestation. Astrid was carried until 37 weeks gestation following the birth of her sister.

Eternal Tapestry

I wrote this after you were born. I think of the tapestry of love we all are weaving every time I visit your grave. Theirs is an eternal tapestry…a story with many beginnings and no endings. Heaven came to sit with us. She floated softly like butterfly kisses and nestled deep in our hearts. Her wings wrapped around her sister as she guided her descent. The silent falling of glittering snowflakes and heartbroken tears while heaven and love quietly filled the room. I’m always amazed by just how expansive love is. That it always grows to hold more with greater ease. The more I love the more I am able to love. Love is strong and fierce and soft and gentle. It’s light enough to fill a room and strong enough to carry grief. Two little granddaughters who fill my heart and soul with so much love I thought it would burst. But of course it didn’t. No, my heart and soul fill and expand as love grows and grows. I feel vulnerable and brave. Love makes me fierce and strong and helps me carry grief. These girls that I love so much, help me love everyone a little deeper and stronger and with a little more grace.
