"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived". ― Henry David Thoreau
Harrison was the Hastings family’s nature lover. As a young child, he was always hiking in the woods, playing in his treehouse, or spending his summers working at the Hastings Farm in Somers, CT. His passions and hobbies followed him into adulthood where he eventually became an avid sportsman and conservationist. He was always happiest out hunting in the fields with his dogs or fishing on his motorboat. Not only did he enjoy the great outdoors, he also took great pride in and had respect for what he brought home from his adventures. He could always be found cooking, smoking, storing, and enjoying meals made from his prized fish and game.
Harrison grew up attending Catholic schools. While at East Catholic High School, he found a true passion for theology, history, and philosophy, and he developed a love for Greek, Hebrew, and Latin. He was a lifelong learner. He enjoyed researching, reading, and engaging in deep, thoughtful conversations. He had an incredible work ethic and fearlessly stood up for his beliefs.
Most importantly, he was a kind, caring, and humble soul. He was the person who shoveled walkways for the elderly, gave employees a ride to and from work, and volunteered at church. To know him was to love him, and he will forever be loved and missed dearly by all.
