“It is what it is”
Eugene “Gene” L. Rush, 90, of Falmouth passed away peacefully after a period of declining health on Saturday, March 11, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband for 58 years to the late Lauretta Shepherd Rush. Gene was born to Maurice and Irene Bowen Rush on July 18,1932 in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Shortly after high school Gene enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served for 10 years ending his service at Otis Air Force Base where he and Lauretta fell in love with the beaches of Cape Cod. He started his service during the Korean War and had also been stationed in the South Pacific, Hawaii and Washington state.
After leaving the Air Force Gene worked at New Seabury Country Club where he spent the next 40 years as a greenskeeper and mechanic until his retirement. He was also co-owner of Allen’s House of Flowers in Falmouth for many years.
Gene was a quiet, soft spoken gentle soul who enjoyed music, spending hours reading at the Falmouth Public Library, long walks, gardening, photography and woodworking. Most of all, Gene was a talented artist and worked on canvas and poster art which was his true love. He excelled in creating pieces of art which captured family, people, and places from his past and present, that will be treasured forever by his children and grandchildren.
