Douglas McLeod Black was born on March 11, 1941 in Toronto, Ontario. He was the first born son of Robert Clifford McLeod Black and his wife, Gladys Marion (Toles) Black.

He had a brother, Gordon Edward and a sister, Patricia Anne. He was very attentive to them as the older brother, providing guidance and support and endless instructions to his sister on how to safely ride a bicycle.

He spent his formative years in the Toronto/Oakville area and attended Oakville Trafalgar High School. While he did not join many after school clubs, he was popular and had a circle of friends. While he was sociable, he had a restless spirit and left school early to pursue his dreams of working, earning his own money and building a future for himself. Throughout his career in the retail and automotive industry he was known for his hard work, dedication and willingness to help others. In many respects he was the faceless person that was always depended upon to be there to attend to whatever crisis might occur that day. He gained satisfaction from his work and from the people with whom he dealt.

More than anything, Doug was a devoted father. He loved spending time with his three girls, sharing stories, playing games and watching their favourite tv shows. He was always present to offer guidance, support and encouragement, no matter what challenges the girls faced.

In his free time, Doug enjoyed reading, country music and stock car racing. Travelling was also something he loved and there were many camping trips with the family and a variety of trips to Cape Cod, Nashville, Nicaragua and a Caribbean cruise.

Doug is survived by the love of his life for sixty-one years, Carol (Cooke); his children Heather (Ivan); Lisa (Paul); and Kelly; and grandchildren Sarah (Mike); Stephanie (Arlan); Krysta (Bret); Shannon; Johnathan (Emma); and, six great-grandchildren Alexis, Zachary, Oliver, Claire, Lucas and Blake.

His memory will be dearly cherished by all whose lives he gently touched.
