Life story

William J. (Bill) Fox Jr., age 85, of Kiron, Iowa and formerly of Whipholt, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. Cremation has taken place and family graveside services with Military Honors will be held in the coming months in the Walker Evergreen Cemetery in Walker, Minnesota.

William J. Fox Jr. (Bill) was born in 1938 in St. Louis, MO, to William J. Fox Sr. and Mary Ida Hartmann. In his early years, his family moved to northern Minnesota where he grew up in the small community of Whipholt, MN. Bill’s parents ran a lakeside resort for over 20 years on Leech Lake where he cultivated his love for the outdoors. Bill graduated high school in Walker, Minnesota and post-graduation proudly served his country in the Air Force. Upon returning home from overseas, he enjoyed being a successful fishing guide for 20 years.

In 1976 he married Sara, and they made their home in Kiron, Iowa. Bill worked for Tyson Foods (IBP) for 33 years in Denison. He always had time for his family as an amazing brother, loving husband and doting father. He delighted in supporting his youngest daughter Jamie’s sporting events, and always encouraged her musical endeavors. He was also an avid sportsman who loved to hunt, trap and fish. He enjoyed taking his sons-in-law and grandchildren out in the boat or into the fields for a pheasant hunt.

He was preceded in death by his parents William Sr. and Mary Fox, and sister Harriet Edwards. He is survived by his cherished wife Sara, daughters Jamie (Josh) Hamblen of Rogers, AR; Tammy (Mike) McGee of Maple Grove, MN; Kim (Brian) Hanson of Odebolt, IA; and Tracy (Kyle) Perlich of Whipholt, MN; brother Harvey Fox of Whipholt, MN; and numerous nieces (9), nephews (4), grandchildren (8), and great grandchildren (8).
