Holocust Survivor and his story
“Never let the darkness scare you”
Abraham served in the armed forces. We honor that service here.
Abraham (Abe) Gold was born on January 7, 1926, in the small village of Strimba, nestled in the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania, Romania. He was the youngest of ten children born to Jacob Preisler (1881–1944) and Blanca (Gold) Preisler (1883–1944). Abe had a twin brother, Martin, with whom he shared a special bond. Because they were identical twins, Abe’s left ear was pierced, and Martin’s right ear was pierced, following a local superstition believed to protect them from harm.
Abe grew up in a close-knit family, surrounded by his siblings:
Brother: Shlomo (b. 1905–1944),
Sister: Sose (b. 1908–1944),
Brother: Leon (b. 1910–?),
Brother: Sulem (b. 1913–?),
Brother: Willy (b. 1915–?),
Brother: Fulop (b. 1918–?),
Brother: Alex (b. 1921–?), and
Sister: Sury (b. 1923–1944).
Brother: Martin-twin, passed away in 1945
Abraham survived the horrors of the Holocaust, carrying forward the memory and resilience of his family. His life’s journey, filled with both profound loss and immense strength, became a testament to his indomitable spirit. Abe lived a long life, eventually passing away in 2023, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, hope, and inspiration for all who knew him.
