Dave LeRoy Stone
"All is fair in love and war." "It's never goodbye, it's see ya later." "You are only as good as your word."
Dave LeRoy Stone, aka “Old Man”, was born on October 21, 1946, in McCook, Nebraska. Dave was one of five children to Dick LeRoy Stone and Etna Mae Thornley Stone. His siblings are Leslie Stone Sr., Harry Stone, Nancy Burris, Terry Stone, and Barbra Phelps.
When Dave was younger, he helped harvest crops all around wherever his family traveled to. He worked for a rendering plant, a leather tanning company, salvage business, and may have picked up a few cartons of cigarettes one time in Wichita, Kansas.
Dave was previously married twice, before he was united in marriage to Mary E. Stewart on December 1, 1972, in Olathe, Kansas. Dave was devoted to Mary and Mary was crazy for Dave. Between the two they raised nine children, Charles Stone, Denise Theriott, Jamie Stone, Sherri Hostetter, Clyde Funk, Harley Funk, James Stone, Dava Louvier, and Rocky Stone. Dave later had two more children, Crystal Stone, and Rachel Stone.
Dave enjoyed drinking coffee and playing lottery tickets at the gas station with Mary, they did this almost daily. Most remember Dave for having the salvage yard at the farm off K Hwy in Milo. He also drove a racecar at the Nevada Speedway.
When you ask people what kind of man Dave was, this is what most would say; Dave was a good man, very stern, a jokester at times, everyone gave him a lot of respect, most people were afraid of him, and he made the rules for everyone.
Memories from his children:
Rocky- “my favorite memory was when we were younger, and everyone got together once a month and how all my siblings showed up for every holiday (favorite was the lake). I can still hear the talking and laughter from the adults and the sounds the water made.”
Denise- loved the lake memories.
Clyde- camping in the park on the 4th of July at Rich Hill.
