Joseph served in the armed forces. We honor that service here.
Joseph Humberto Goulart, beloved by many, passed away in his home on Monday, July 11, 2022. Born August 27, 1945 on the island of Faial in the Azores, he immigrated to the United States at the age of 16, residing in Fall River, Massachusetts.
Joe was a Vietnam veteran serving in the US Army Corp of Engineers stationed in Da Nang and Pleiku. He continued his military career, joining the US Naval Reserve Seabees, stationed in Rhode Island, after his active duty in Vietnam.
He married his wife Ellen in 1980 and shortly thereafter relocated to Louisville, Kentucky. Utilizing his skills as a master carpenter, Joe established his own firm, J. Goulart Remodeling, specializing in restorations. Numerous homes in Louisville have been graced by his tremendous talent.
Joe had a lifelong love of soccer, having played with regional teams in his youth and remained a diehard supporter of European soccer.
Faial held a special place in his heart and he found such happiness and peace when visiting the island. There, he was affectionately known as Kentucky Joe.
He is predeceased by his parents, Jose Silveira and Maria Carmen Goulart. He will forever live in the hearts of his loved ones, his wife Ellen, daughters Laura (Shalane) Goulart, Katherine (Matthew) Duckworth, and Robin (Marc) Carvalho, along with his beautiful grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as Pa Joe.
He also leaves behind his brother Cesar (Bita) Goulart and sisters Rachel (Ralph) Perhac and June Azevedo and extended family, all who truly cherished him.
