Janet L Caswell (Smart), 93, passed away on May 18, 2023 at the Southern Maine Health Care Hospital, surrounded by family after a brief illness.
Janet was born to Rachel and Walter Smart in 1930. She was raised in Portsmouth, NH, and graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1948. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard A. Caswell, of Greenland NH in 1949. They had two children, Bruce and Linda, and remained happily married for 58 years until Richards passing in 2007. They owned homes in New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts and enjoyed golfing, gardening, traveling, and fishing. They routinely took fishing trips to East Grand and Rangely Lakes in Maine. They also enjoyed a good road trip, and visited many national parks throughout the United States and Canada. Janet remained active and independent with family, friends, church, and the community until the day before her death.
She was predeceased by her parents Walter and Rachel Smart, brother Walter Jr. and his wife Ethel, sister Blanche Taccetta and her husband Vincent (Bud), and her beloved daughter Linda (Lin) Caswell and her husband Larry.
She is survived by her son Bruce Caswell and his wife Dawn, granddaughter Erin Caswell, grandsons Erik Caswell, his wife Sharon, Dalton Caswell, his wife Janis, nephew Ethan Caswell, great grandson’s Andres and Declan, and numerous other family members.
