Obituary-Ingrid Marridell Whittaker
Thanksgiving service for Ingrid Marridell Conolly affectionately known as Inn-Inn. Ingrid was born on a Sunday on October 22nd 1944 at Creek, Cayman Brac. She was the first born of three to Hannah Clarissa Conolly and only child to Joseph Maridale Conolly. Her siblings are Emiline Oleta Whittaker and John Clifford Byrd Jr. From early childhood, Ingrid loved to read as there was no electricity, no telephone, not even a radio. Ingrid attended the Creek All Age School and her favorite childhood memory was going to the Christmas fair with her only doll. Ingrid was raised by her grandmother, Julia Clara Carter-Conolly, in Cayman Brac until her grandmother fell ill in 1962 and then moved to Grand Cayman. It was then she decided to go to night school in George Town where George Town Primary School is today. She studied bookkeeping, shorthand and typing. She also took several correspondence courses including clerk typist and received a diploma from ICS. In the early years of her career life she worked at Cay Haven Corporation Services but did not like seating at a desk typing all day. She then worked at the Pirates Caves in Bodden Town for 10 years. Ingrid was a well-known face to the thousands of tourists who came to Cayman each day. She had been working at Richard's Pot of Gold on George Town Waterfront. She worked there for 11 years until she retired to care for her daughter, Darla's youngest son, Dariun. She homeschooled him for the early years of his childhood and even had a pre-school graduation ceremony before he went off to primary school. Ingrid met Venners Darvie Whittaker better known as Jack who was a seaman and entrepreneur of several businesses from North Side. In March of 1971 the two were married. To this union four children were born, Randy, Darvy, Randa and Darla who were the most important part of her life. She was also the proud grandmother to 18 grandchildren and loved spending time with them, Jake, Shanaz, Brenon, Nicole, Dylan & Dimitri, Brittney, Aidan, Kayla, Diandra, Dante, Leah, Jaydon, Austin, Randy-Eric, Dariun, Rhody and Joby. Ingrid was also blessed to have four great- grandchildren, Jaida, Bryson, Jacob and Kaizen. In her spare time Ingrid loved to do crochet and gardening. Ingrid loved to write and had several pen pals throughout the world from Australia to Germany to Scotland. Ingrid was a quiet and shy woman but with a big heart and great determination. Her favorite book was the Bible first and foremost. Ingrid wanted to be remembered "as one who made my little corner on earth a little brighter". If she had to write her own epitaph it would be "where you are, I was. Where I am you will be. Are you ready?"
