Life story

Desmond Patrick Boomer Chitty

Desmond Patrick Boomer Chitty passed away early Easter morning April 16th, 2017 in his mommy's arms, with his daddy close by his side. He went quickly and peacefully after being read his favorite book. Des passed away from complications from Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome while waiting for a heart transplant.

Desmond was born September 14th, 2016 to Dallen Patrick and Anna Muriel Chitty. He was a fighter from day one and battled courageously to get through his first open heart surgery at five days old. Des spent his entire seven months here on earth in the wonderful care of the nurses and doctors at Primary Children’s Hospital. Despite all his pain and living his life in the hospital, he was still the happiest boy who loved life.

Des loved the ocean, fish, turtles. He would watch his favorite fish channel gleefully when given the chance. He was truly a playful boy at heart and would play for hours on end. He loved his spinning toys, was enamored by faces, and loved to grab people’s glasses. Desi loved music and people in general. He had a magnetic personality that drew others to him. People had a hard time leaving his room because he was always surrounded by much joy and happiness. Desmond also enjoyed books (especially his Fish Book). He would stare intently at the pages, always wanting more. He also loved mimicking others, blowing raspberries and was just starting to babble. Most thought he was “The Boss Baby” because he always called the shots and let everyone know what he wanted. He loved his mom and dad and would light up anytime they came into the room. His dad was his best pal and they spent countless hours playing and having fun. He also spent a lot of time in his mom's arm, the place where they both felt safe. He loved his big sister Elliott Mae and couldn’t stop staring at her when she visited. His immediate response was to grab her face with his chubby hands the minute it was in reach. Desi loved his family more than anything, and that's why he fought so hard to be here.

Desmond was the greatest heart warrior. He gave his family the best seven months of life, the hardest, but most wonderful and eye opening seven months. His determination and spunk made him a true fighter. Although he is gone, he will never be forgotten. He inspired so many and taught all the real meaning of life. His family looks forward to the day they will be reunited with Desi Patrick, what a wonderful day that will be.

Desmond was preceded in death by his great grandpa Reed, great grandmas Norma & Lavelle. He is survived by his parents Dallen & Anna Chitty, sister Elliott Mae, Grandparents Steve & JoAnn Sandall and Leonard & ReNae Chitty, countless Aunts and Uncles, and many cousins.

Endless thanks to Primary Children's doctors, nurses, techs, respiratory therapists, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, music therapy, nutritionist, pharmacists (and the list goes on) for loving our boy and becoming our second family. Words cannot express our gratitude and love for the people who gave us those seven months with our beautiful baby. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to Primary Children’s Hospital. We love you Desmond. And our love will follow wherever you go.

MeMaw and T-Bone’s Sweet Boy

When this beautiful boy floated into our lives, none of us were prepared for the impact he would leave on all of us. Although he spent his entire 7 months of life in the hospital, the time we spent with Desi was the most precious time we ever spent. Desi never spoke, but his eyes seemed to speak volumes to you. We were so lucky to spend our evenings with our beautiful grandson. After his parents left for the night, we’d come up to his hospital room to tuck him in and sit with him a minute while he slept. The quiet of the Cardiac ICU at night, except for the humming of the machines around him, became our place of peace. Peaceful because we were near him and could hold his hand and stare in his eyes and truly felt like he spoke back to us. Desmond was a special, special boy. We miss him terribly and long to see him again but his short time of existence on this earth led to so many good things. Donations to the American Heart Association. Yearly blanket and book donations to Primary Children’s. Scholarship funds for students in nursing. Blood donations. Desi is an inspiration and always will have purpose on this earth. We love him beyond this earth and are so grateful we had him for 7 little months in our lives!
