″ ‘Yes I know who you are,’ said the baby bird. “You are not a kitten. You are not a hen. You are not a dog. You are not a cow. You are not a boat, or a plane, or a Snort! You are a bird, and you are my mother.”
Lyda was born to Jeff and Beatrice Hunter on February 14, 1934 in Algood, Tennessee. She graduated as the valedictorian of her high school class at Algood High School. She married Fred Nelson. They moved to Ohio where they raised their three sons Phil, Tim, and Jeff. Lyda and Fred were happily married for 45 years until Fred passed away in 1998. Lyda continued their legacy of dedication to family by embedding herself in the hearts of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was a warm, safe and comforting haven filled every Sunday night with the laughter of children playing, the aromas of southern cooking, and the gathering of multi-generations of family and neighbors. She loved cooking for her family. Everyone knew if you walked into her house she was going to feed you. She had many staples like her cornflake crusted chicken, oven hamburgers, and jambalaya but her heart was in the deserts.
