Terry David Smith

Terry David Smith, 77, Newport, OH, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2023 at his home surrounded by family. Born in Marietta, OH, on July 29, 1945, he was the son of the late Joseph David and Helen Haught Smith. He was a 1962 gradate of Stover High School in New Matamoras, OH. After graduation, he went to barber school and worked as a barber for several years, and was then drafted into the Army to go to Vietnam. He was a retired pipefitter and business agent of the Local Union #565, Parkersburg, WV, where he earned his 50-year pin. Terry was also a member of the Matamoras Masonic Lodge#374 A.F.&A.M., was a 32nd-degree Mason, and a member of the Elks Lodge #1701, St. Marys, WV. He was an excellent welder, and enjoyed woodworking, golfing, and fixing things.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Beverly Applegate Smith; two children, Joseph “JD” (Melissa) Smith and Kelly (Don) Tekavec; three grandchildren, Lake Satterfield, Lily Tekavec, and Blake Smith; one sister Marta Collins; faithful companion his dog, Zoe; four nephews, Roger Weddle (fiancé Leslie Cisler), Dave (Vicki) White, Keith Brown, and Tony (Amy) Brown; and two nieces, Tina (Andrew) Kern, and Shelly White. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Donna Launder, and Joann White.
