Donald Joseph Gaglione Sr.
“ Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” - Matthew 5:9
Donald J. Gaglione Sr. “Don” found eternal peace on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the age of 61. Preceded in death by his mother Shirley. Survived by proud father Anthony, loving brothers Duane (Debbie), Darrell, and Daniel (Geri). Caring former wife, Lori. Compassionate father of Jenna, Donald Jr (Miranda), and Amanda. Devoted grandfather of Donald III (DJ) and Anthony (AJ).
Don was a devoted family man, and the love he had for his family was unwavering. Don cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, creating a lifetime of cherished memories. Whether it was family gatherings, vacations, or simply spending quality time at home, Don prioritized the bonds of family above all else.
In addition to his love for family, Don had a special place in his heart for his friends. He was a loyal and caring friend, always there to provide support, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Don’s friendships were a source of great joy and comfort to him, and he leaves behind a circle of friends who will forever hold his memory close.
Beyond Don’s love for family and friends, Don’s passion for motorcycles was a defining aspect of his life and career. He found freedom and exhilaration on the open road, and the rumble of his motorcycle was a soundtrack to his adventures. Don’s love for motorcycles brought him camaraderie and countless unforgettable journeys, and it was a reflection of his adventurous spirit.
Don accumulated an impressive 42 years of distinguished service to many communities as a dedicated law enforcement officer. Don dedicated over 32 years to the City of Milwaukee and served many communities while rising through the ranks from Police Aide to retiring as a Deputy Inspector. Don then continued his dedication to service after leaving the City of Milwaukee by taking on his role as the Chief of Police for the Village of Big Bend in 2014.
Don had many roles within the Milwaukee Police Department including being one of the first members of MPD’s K9 unit, a member of the Tactical Enforcement Unit, and ultimately Captain of several districts, including the Captain of the Neighborhood Task Force. During his time as a Captain at NTF, Don participated in, and passed the Police Motor School which was often considered one of the most physically and mentally grueling trainings offered to police officers. This continued to demonstrate Don’s desire to lead from the front throughout his career, resulting in him often being referred to as a Cop’s Cop.
In addition to Don’s commitment to the community through law enforcement, he also served the community as a supervisor for the Milwaukee World Festivals organization and the Milwaukee Brewers Organization.
Don’s legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and fellow riders. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his family values, friendship, and community leadership.
