Muwaffaq Nasser Murad Al-Shaikh
Muwaffaq, also known as Mike, was born to Nasser and Victoria (Bodiya) Murad Al-Shaikh on January 19, 1953 in Baghdad, Iraq. He has 5 siblings in total. Muniba, married to Shawket Killu. Munib, married to Madiha Deddeh. Muayad, married to Linda Morrison. Monett, married to Faiq Killu and his younger sister Maysoon. Mike and his family immigrated to the United States around March of 1972. Upon coming to Detroit, the family settled in Southfield, MI where many other Iraqi Christians from back home were settling. It made for a nice sense of familiarity of community, culture and language. He worked for Wendy's corporate kitchen and then joined the "Big Three" automotive group of Daimler-Chrysler. Mike worked on the assembly line building vehicles with his brother until they were laid off.
During this tine, Mike married his lovely wife, Fairooz Metti from Chicago, Illinois. Fairooz was a cousin through Mike's father Nasser. In fact, Fairooz' mother and Mike's father were first cousins! The young couple were married in August of 1978 at the Chapel of Our Lady of Mercy in Farmington Hills and celebrated by dancing and eating at the now closed Roma Hall in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
Mike and his brother decided to open a convenience store in Wolverine Lake and named it Zena's Party Store. They owned this business for many years before Mike decided to split from his brother and open up a middle eastern frozen food factory. The middle eastern food factory was a dream of Mike's to create. He wanted nothing more to share family recipes from back home, and his father in laws recipes, to the public in Detroit. The business was around for nearly 20 years.
During this time, Mike and Fairooz had a daughter named Renee who was born in May of 1988. She was their only child but truly their light and apple of their eyes. Renee was involved in dancing, singing, performing arts, some sports and most importantly church. Church was one of Mike's favorite things to attend to. He was a very religious and God-fearing man. Mike liked to visit different churches, follow different priests as well as pray novenas and watch religious movies.
