Life story

The most loved Husband, Father, Grandaddy, and Pa

Glenn Thomas Snider, age 88, of New Bern, North Carolina, passed from this life into eternity at his home on Sunday, November 5, 2023, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

The funeral will be Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel in Vanceboro. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:45 pm. He will be laid to rest at Celestial Memorial Gardens in Vanceboro, North Carolina.

Glenn was born in Gastonia, North Carolina on December 13, 1934. He was one of eleven children. At the age of twelve, after his father’s passing, Glenn and two of his siblings went to live at Oxford Masonic Orphanage. While at Oxford, he learned the trade of printing. He graduated in 1954. After graduation, he moved to New Bern, North Carolina to work at Owen G. Dunn Printing. In 1955, he enlisted in the United States Army and went to boot camp at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He served three years, including an eighteen month deployment in Germany. Upon his discharge he returned to his position at Owen G. Dunn Printing. In 1967, he began working at the United States Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point as a pressman. Through the years, he advanced to the supervisor of the base printing shop and had the highest level of civilian security clearance on the base. He retired in March of 1995.

Glenn loved Jesus and loved people. He was known for his humble and gentle spirit. He lovingly served at Saint’s Delight FWB Church in New Bern, North Carolina as a deacon and church leader for many years. In more recent years, he joined Holly Hill PH Church in Vanceboro, North Carolina.

There were few things he enjoyed more than working outside, whether it was in his garden, tending the grape vine, cutting grass or just “piddlin” in the yard. He loved his Folgers coffee, reading, and watching the Redskins or Panthers play football.

He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel McAfee Snider Jr. and Bessie Smith Snider Shook; his siblings Kate Patterson (Clifford), Mary Wells (Ernest), John Snider, Shirley Leesnitzer (Robert), Jimmy Snider (Beth), Hunter Snider, Lilly Snider, Billy Snider and Dorothy Snider; and his step-daughter, Valerie Tyndall.

He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Morris Snider; two children, Glenn Timothy Snider and Cheryl Snider Morrow (David); one step-daughter, Kay Tyndall Bennett; grandchildren, Joel Snider (Kelli), Olivia Snider, Caitlyn Sutton and Caroline Sutton; two great grandchildren, Adrian Meza and Nora Grace Snider; his sister Paulette Shaw (Bernard); and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation and love to PruittHealth Hospice for their excellent care, guidance, and devotion.
