Life story

We are all here today to honor an amazing man. To you he was your husband, brother, son, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend, but to us he was the man we looked up to the most in the world. He was our Dad. Harry, Norma, and I would like to share some of our favorite memories with you.

Dad was a man whose faith was beyond words. No matter how tough things were, he showed us that keeping your faith and family close would get you through anything. To him, family was not just those of us who shared his name, it was everyone that touched his heart. All of you gathered here today wouldn't be here if he hadn't touch yours.

We could listen to Dad's childhood stories for hours about how much he enjoyed growing up in Catharine with his brothers and sister and how much they loved to torture their mom. He was very proud of the Catharine Parish and the parish choir, the polka masses he participated in, and he thougth the world of Father Earl. He really enjoyed the Country Dutchmen Band and the family that grew from it, but most of all, he loved the family business and working side by side with his dad.

He was fond of his grandkids and they were fortunate enough to spend this past summer working for him and will never forget all the memories that were made. They were all so proud that they worked for Cattleman's Oil Company.

Harry's foundest memory was working with Dad in the shop. Once when things didn't go Dad's way, Harry remembers him throwing a tire iron across the shop, which ened up sticking into the wall. When it came to answering questions that Harry had, he was always so patient and willing to teach him. Dad was so very proud of Harry.

Norma's favorite memory of Dad was his morning wake-up calls. He was always such a chipper morning person and every morning he would flip on our bedroom light and say; "YES GIRLS, IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN, TIME TO RISE AND SHINE." We tried to fix him and took the light bulb out of our bedroom light, so he just started turning on our closet light. When we took out the closet light, he'd come in with flashlights. He was always one-step ahead!

My favorite memory of Dad was how much he loved to tease me. He always told me he found me at the mailbox, and sometimes the story changed and he said I crawled out from underneath the grainery. He tried hard to convince me that I wasn't his real child. Dad, I am so thankful that you checked the mail that day and not Grandpa! I'll never forget how much fun he had harrassing me and my friends when I'd have slumber parties and the many nicknames he gave me...Boo Boo Bear, LWL, Birdie Boo, and many others that are unmentionable.

Larry, you were his best friend. Dad always said you did everything together, even when he didn't need you there.

When Dad would tell stories or jokes, he always laughed so hard he could hardly finish the story. He thought he was funny, but he always ended up laughing harder than we did.

We sat in the hospital for days with Dad, and we will never forget how he told us that he remembers the day he fell in love with Mom. He said it was like something you'd see in the movies. They were as a Dutchmaster's dance and he said things got hazy and at that momement he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. He also said she is the prettiest girl he'd every seen and she is a walking angel. May all of us be blessed in this lifetime to have that kind of love. He asked us to take care of her and said of all things, he would miss her the most!

We love you Dad!!!
