Life story

Delores “Kay” Carroll, age 74, resident of Caddo Mills, TX, gained her Heavenly wings and went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 27, 2021. She was born on May 31, 1947 to James Weldon Mellody and Wanda Jean (Spearman) Mellody. Kay grew up in Royse City and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Royse City. She was lovingly known by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many others as “Gran”. Kay was brimming with laughter, teeming with stories to tell, and overflowing with compassion. She waged a valiant and determined battle against cancer until she could fight no more, then last summer she gracefully and without complaint began looking forward to God calling her Home. She started setting goals to hopefully live to see. Christmas – oh how Kay loved Christmas! Taking no chances, she decorated her apartment for Christmas 2020 in September! She spent those months leading up to last Christmas making handmade Christmas stockings for each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Kay loved her family with all her heart, and she was always ready to jump at the chance to spend time with them, especially on holidays. Kay adored her multitude of friends, and the feeling was mutual. Her presence will be deeply and forever missed by many.

She is survived by her children: Deana West and husband John, James (Jamie) Gray, and Lisa Williams; grandchildren: Justin West, Denae West, Richard Gray, Mia Gray, Macie Gray, Joshua Gray, Kaine Cleveland and wife Jessica, Devin Cleveland and wife Mikaela, and Grayson Broad and husband Andrew; 9 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way; sisters: Deborah Kahrs and husband Gregg, Cathy Partridge and husband Brad, and Nancy Summers and husband Joe; brother: Jim Mellody and wife Jo Nell; aunt, Grace Jeter; a host of nieces and nephews; and a ton of treasured friends. She was preceded in death by great grandchild: Caris Gray; brother: Ricky Mellody; and her parents.
