Amy Bishop unexpectedly returned to her Father in Heaven, reuniting with her earthly father and sister on January 5, 2005 by defeating the illness she had suffered for so many years, and thereby eliminating the many years of suffering that lay ahead.
Amy was born in Murray, Utah on May 9, 1963 to John D. and Lael Kunz Askew. She attended schools in New Jersey, Virginia and graduated from Westlake High School in Westlake Village, California.
She met and married Robert Bishop while attending BYU. They later divorced. She loved music and had a beautiful singing voice. Until the illness prevented her from being with her children, she was an exemplary mother, spending quality time with her children, reading, teaching and training. Her children were the focus and light of her life.
She is survived by her five children, Rebecca, Craig, Trevor, Andrew and Hannah; her mother, Lael; her brothers, Scott and Carol, Charlie and Traci, Danny and Kristi; her sister, Jane and Gary Denning; grandmother, Nellie Kunz; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her father, John; and sister, Julie. The family wishes to thank the staff of the care facilities where Amy lived the last few years for the kind and loving care rendered.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 10, 2005 at 12:00 noon in the Corner Canyon Third Ward, 13100 South 735 East (off Golden Pheasant), Draper, Utah. Friends and family may call at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State, Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. or at the ward on Monday one hour prior to the funeral. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 South 1700 East, Sandy.
DAY AT THE BEACH
When Amy was in high school there were two rules I asked my teenagers to follow:
1. Be where you are supposed to be and be home when you are supposed to be home
Or
2. Call and tell me.
One day I let Amy take my car to school because I didn’t have to go anywhere that day. About mid-morning she called me. (this was back in the day when there were no cell phones and I think it cost a dime to use a pay phone). She reminded me of the rules I gave her, and told me she wasn’t at school - It was such a beautiful day and it just seemed like the beach would be a better option for her. At that point her friend took the phone from her and said “me too! I’m at the beach with Amy – but don’t tell my mom!!!
I was sad to think she skipped school, but at least she followed rule #2.
When we were kids, it wasn't unusual for me, Amy and Charlie to trick-or-treat together. So all three of us would end up with identical stashes of Candy. Charlie and my stash would be gone within a few days. Amy would hide hers and eat it very slowly. She took great pleasure months later showing us that she still had candy and eat it in front of us, It would make me so mad! I would search her room for her hidden candy stash haha.
