Life story

“Always be kinder than you feel, expect nothing and accept everything. Love loudly, even when it hurts. Especially when it hurts. To have loved, I am forever grateful.” — Chessa

A Living Mosaic: The Brilliance and Spirit of Chessa

They say that some people don’t just pass through the world; they weave themselves into it. Chessa was one of those rare souls. She didn't just walk beside us; she listened to our stories, shared her grace, and built a life that was a living mosaic of everyone she ever met. To talk about Chessa is to talk about a life lived with a fierce quiet beauty.

The Human Museum

A light from the very beginning, Chessa balanced a brilliant mind with a beautiful soul, living every moment with bold and unapologetic intention. She lived as a "museum of everyone she ever met," a collection of every friendly smile, connection, and fleeting hug that shaped her soul. She didn't see herself as a solo act, but as a collection of the people she loved. She taught us that home isn’t a place, but the feeling of being surrounded by love.

A Life of Boundless Connection

She navigated the world with a rare combination of boundless curiosity and unforgettable grace, leaving a mark on others not just through her accomplishments, but through her radiant smile and the resilient, tenacious spirit she carried every day.

Chessa exuded a kindness that required no words—a gentle energy that all living things seemed to recognize. She offered dignity and unconditional love to the world around her, treating every soul with a deep and natural respect. In her presence, you didn't just feel seen as a person; you felt part of the vast, beautiful tapestry of life she so dearly loved and protected.

Her gift for connection was truly universal; to her, every living thing was relative. She moved through the world with a profound reverence for the environment, seeing the inherent wonder in the quiet growth of a plant or the steady rhythm of the natural world. Whether she was nurturing her garden, sharing an unspoken bond with an animal, or simply standing in awe of the earth beneath her feet, she lived with a grace that widened her circle of compassion to embrace all of nature.

This same profound connection extended to her love of music. A true enthusiast, Chessa had a deep appreciation for all genres, finding a soul-level resonance in the lyrics and stories within the songs. To her, music wasn't just background noise; it was a reflection of the beauty she found in life’s simplest moments. Because she listened so deeply—to songs, to nature, and to the people around her—she possessed the rare gift of not only seeing the good in others but bringing out their very best.

An Adventurous Soul

Chessa embraced life with an adventurous intensity, always willing to take risks and face new challenges. Her love for the outdoors revealed the happy, free spirit that defined her. Whether she was exploring Myanmar and Ecuador or independently traveling cross-country in her self-converted van to visit as many National Parks as possible, she found her greatest joy in the journey. She did nothing by accident; her travels and her connections were a testament to her desire to experience the world deeply and purposefully.

A Legacy of Love

Though her time was brief—spanning 9,263 days of laughter, growth, and memories—her impact is permanent. To honor her vibrant and impactful legacy, I encourage you to talk about her, share your stories, and connect deeply with one another. Be present; give yourself permission to grieve, to feel, and to love her always. Grief does not fade; it becomes a part of who we are. We carry her with us in every step we take, living out the truth that while we are forever different because she died, we are infinitely better because she lived.

The Ripple Effect

As we navigate the heavy silence of her absence, choose to live in the light of her life rather than the darkness of her death. Do something kind in her name—to create a "ripple effect" of her life. In honor of how intentionally she lived, let us be purposeful in our own lives. Be kind, be generous, and make meaningful connections. Help a neighbor or a stranger, and embrace the simple beauties of the world just as she did. Create the memories we know she would have loved to experience. By making these connections she would have loved, we ensure her radiant spirit continues to light and shape the world she so dearly loved.
