Memorial Hike
We did this hike in your honor, but I would much rather have had you there.
Mike was a man who genuinely loved the simple things: a well-maintained engine, a quiet spot on the water, and the latest piece of technology. A dedicated part of the Berlin Public Schools custodial team, Mike loved his job making sure children have safe and well-maintained spaces to learn. He was a fixture of kindness in those halls, a genuinely kind person who was always ready to help anyone with anything.
Mike's heart really belonged to his "chosen family," the massive network of friends he built at the Cadillac Ranch. Mike was at his happiest when he was outdoors or on the move. You could usually find him in his Toyota Tacoma (the "Taco"), kayaking, fishing, spending a weekend away at a ranch, or heading off to the next NASCAR race. When he wasn't on the road, he was a lifelong Star Wars fan who always found a little adventure in the stories he loved.
He was also fiercely proud of his Portuguese heritage. Mike had been planning to get a traditional Portuguese Rooster tattoo as a symbol of pride for his family and his history, though he never quite got around to it.
He is survived by his son, Michael Jr.; his mother, Maria Adelaide Homen; his brother, Steven; and his niece, Rebecca.
We design every page from Michael’s 85 photos. Make it yours, then order a copy for everyone who loved Michael.
