Life story

Anh was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was born in Saigon, Vietnam and grew up during the Vietnam War. She met Dung Nguyen while in high school and they eventually married in 1975. They went to college together and had 2 children, Sheila and Tony. The whole family moved to the United States in 1993 and had to rebuild their whole life. The first few years were difficult, but Anh was always determined. She continued learning English and taking various classes at Community Colleges. She earned her technician degree but continued to take classes for enjoyment. She never quit learning! She taught and modeled to her children the importance of independence, hard work, and determination. Throughout her life, she had many hobbies and truly enjoyed life. She loved ballroom dancing and so she took lessons with her husband to improve her skills. She loved to travel so she went on road trips, cruises, and visited many countries. She learned photography so she could remember all the places she had travelled to. She learned the keyboard so she could play her favorite music. She always lived life to the fullest!

Through everything, Anh loved her family deeply and made sacrifices for her children so they can have a better future. Her actions were always louder than her words. She hated being away from her husband, but would fly across the country at a moment’s notice to take care of her grandchildren (Ema and Kenji), sometimes for months at a time. She always made sure that everyone around her was well taken care of... be it camping trips, travel trips to another country, or simply just being at home. She was always prepared and seemed to be able to cook gourmet Vietnamese food anywhere. She brought everyone together and was the light of our family. We miss her dearly, but we take comfort in knowing that she truly lived her best life and we got to be witnesses to a life well lived, a life well loved, and a life worth remembering.

Happy Mother's Day!

Thinking of both Sheila and you on this special day, knowing that Sheila would be missing you even more this weekend. I haven't even met you but through Sheila and her love for you, I feel like I've gotten to know you some. I remember her always choosing purses that are in fun colors or prints for you. I know one thing for sure, that you had been an incredible mother. You had to have been for your family to love you like they do. May you rest in peace, knowing that you left an incredible legacy through Tony and Sheila and Ema and Kenji. Happy Mother's Day!
