Douglasville

Jesse Kenneth Godby, Sr., age 87, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday March 15, 2026. He was born on August 19, 1938.

He was preceded in death by his son, Phillip Alan Godby, Sr.; his parents, Jesse Albert Godby and Ruth Preston Godby; his sisters, Merle Wright and Sandra Etris; and his brother, Danny Hart.

Kenneth shared 44 loving years of marriage with his devoted wife, Linda Eubanks Godby. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Norma Lindell; his children: Sheila Morris (Larry), Scott Winslett (Gina), Troy Winslett (Jennifer), Wesley Winslett (Jessica), and Jesse Godby, Jr. (Megan); and his daughter in law, Karen Godby. He was the proud grandfather of 16 grandchildren and great-grandfather of 17 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Kenneth retired from Electrolux after nearly 50 years of dedicated service and had a deep love for his country. He was a man of strong faith who loved the Lord deeply and cherished his family above all else.

While his family will deeply miss him, they find comfort in knowing he has entered his eternal home and heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Thank you dad

Dad, I just wanted to tell you thank you for being a great father to me. When growing up things weren’t always easy and we didn’t get along. As time went on that changed and I’m so thankful it did. You were my best friend and I could always count on you when I needed you. Thank you for everything you did for me growing up and purchasing my 1st car the 1978’Buick Regal. That car had a huge dent in the side but it was perfect for me. Others drove mustangs but I drove a Regal thanks to you. You thought me this in life to appreciate what you had in life and I’m grateful. You also helped me numerous times when I needed help with something that came up financially. You never asked questions you just wrote the check and said here take this. If I refused you would say take this now. Without you in my life my family and I wouldn’t be living where we are now. You helped my family get to where we are today. Dad thank you for being my father my true dad. Thank you for trusting me to help you on your last day with us. I will miss you forever and can’t wait till the day we are back together rejoicing together. And till then DAD I LOVE YOU. Your best friend, Wes

To My Sweet Grandpapa

Grandpapa, I feel so incredibly blessed to say that I am your granddaughter. Words cannot express how much I love you and miss you already. I am so thankful to God for the nearly 36 years he gave me with you. I only had my daddy for 19 of those years. You were there for so many of my milestones before he passed, but I will never forget how much you were there for me after. You helped me fix my car in college, so that I could get to my clinicals for nursing school (I wanted to pay you back, but you wouldn’t let me). You were there to watch me graduate from said nursing school. You and Phillip walked me down the aisle to marry the love of my life. You got to hold and love on my 2 beautiful boys. I could just go on and on sharing all the memories I will hold onto forever. Thank you for loving me and my family so hard. I know my boys will forever remember their Grandpapa and how much you loved them. Thank you for blessing me with Little Nana. Had you not met her those 44 years ago, I don’t know that I would have got to experience how a normal grandmother should love and treat a grandchild. I am so incredibly sad that you are gone, but I am happy that you are no longer in any pain and I have no doubt that you are with the Lord. Give my daddy lots of hugs from me and my boys. We will be missing you until we see you again. I love you so much, Grandpapa. Love, Ashley (or as you liked to call me… Ash-Lee)

Dad - a title earned

You stepped into my life at a critical time. You showed me what it means to care for your family and be a Dad. I will always appreciate the sacrifices you made for us and how you demonstrated commitment and love. You were a friend to many and you were a second Dad for my wife too. We love you and look forward to seeing you again. For now we know you are enjoying the peace of eternity with our saviour.
