The Life of Mary Manley Allen
It is with joy and sadness that we announce Mary Manley Allen’s home going to be with her Lord and Savior. At the age of 101, Mary passed away at home as a resident of Granbury, Texas on January 12, 2026. She was formerly of Augusta, Morrow, and Atlanta, Georgia. Mary was born on October 23, 1924, to Myrtle Ione (Johnson) Manley and Robert Raymond Manley in Atlanta. Friends describe her as prayer warrior, mentor, godly servant, Bible teacher, missionary, evangelist, lifelong friend, patriot, political activist, baseball fan, quilter, gardener, and Texan.
Mary served as Director of Evangelism at First Presbyterian Church, Augusta, Georgia, for several years, teaching believers how to share the gospel through Evangelism Explosion. She served on the Georgia State Board of Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF/Good News Clubs), taught believers how to share the gospel with children, and served this organization in a variety of roles for 50+ years. A prolific writer with biblical insight, she developed Christian curriculums for children used by Released Time Christian Education in Augusta schools. She also served with CEF as a Bible teacher, where students were given the opportunity to attend Christian education classes at a nearby church. At age 70, Mary served for a year in Ukraine with CoMission, teaching a curriculum, “Christian Ethics and Morality, a Foundation for Society.” She returned twice to Ukraine on mission trips at ages 75 and 80. Mary authored two locally published children’s devotionals celebrating Easter and Christmas which were provided to Granbury churches.
Mary retired from the executive office of Rich’s Department Store in Atlanta, Georgia where she was employed for almost 20 years. She was a member of Acton Baptist Church, Texas, and the Granbury Quilters’ Guild. From 2011 through 2016, she invested 2,815 hours making 300 quilt tops for local charities with the help of her friend, Lou Bates.
