Jean Day

Eulogy -

Thank you all for coming;

We are gathered here to remember the life of Jean Day. A 90 year life, gone too soon. In those 90 years she was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a friend. Her life touched each and every person here today in a unique way, and that has helped shape us into the people we are today. People who have started families, businesses, made a lasting mark on the local community but most importantly, people whose lives were touched by a person who was wise beyond her years even at the end. A person we could all turn to for advice and guidance whenever we needed it.

From cleaning cottages in Newboro as a teenager, to working at Brown Shoe in Perth and her career at Hershey in Smiths falls, she truly embraced the sayings of earning everything you have and dirty hands make clean money. There were many things Jean was proud of over the years, from building an abandoned house into a home. Standing up for what she knew was right and being a pillar in the local community, but what she was most proud of was her family.

Faith and family were core principals of hers, from her first breath to her last. She leaves behind 3 daughters, Tammy, Doris and Linda. 4 Sons, Gord, Albert, Donnie and Larry, 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. I was lucky enough to know Jean for 28 years but to me she was known to me only as grandma. I lived under her roof for the first 20 years of my life and can say she had an outsized impact on the person I have become. Knowing the value of a dollar, knowing a hard day's work is something to be proud of. Life isn't easy, and it isn't fair but we don't give up in this family are only a few of the things she ingrained in me over the years.

She now sits with those who passed before her, Lawrence, Bob and Bard and will be waiting for all of us when it is our time. We aren't just remembering a life, the life of an amazing woman, but a legacy. A legacy of a time long passed, a time where things moved a little shower and family was above all else. A legacy that will live on in each of us until we too pass into the next life.
