Life story

Young Sook Giles know by all of us as Andy was born to WonWon Hyung and Rhes Soon Ye on 10-12- 1936 in Yangju-Kun Kyunggi-Do, Korea, and passed away July 17th, 2023 in Kennewick, Washington.

Andy's parents were killed by the Japanese prior to the Korean War. Andy and her grandmother and several others from her small town then escaped through the rice paddies to Uijungbu, Korea, where she lived with her grandmother and worked in the officer's mess doing dishes and other small chores.

Andy met her future husband and partner James Giles at the Officers Club and they soon fell in love and were married.

After being discharged from the army, Jim returned to Quincy, Washington where Andy would soon join him and start their life together. Not much more than a year after coming to the United States and living in Quincy, Jim and Andy moved to Mattawa, Washington, where they made their home for many years.

Andy loved raising baby calves, dogs, cats and almost any animal. She loved cooking for her neighbors and was famous for her beef bagogi. Andy ironed suits and did laundry and helped any who needed it. Andy was loved by all who had the opportunity to know her.

Andy is preceded in death by her parents, an infant son who was born in Korea and her beloved son Mike.
