THE OBITUARY OF JANET S. JORDAN
Janet S. Jordan was born on December 3, 1986, to Kaye Lynne McEwen and Anthony Courtney in Rochester, New York. Her mother and stepfather, Gary Saylor, instilled in her love, respect for others, and a sincere thirst for knowledge. This thirst for knowledge led Janet to the College at Brockport, State University of New York, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in 2009. She was also a 2016 graduate of the United Way’s African American Leadership Development Program (AALDP).
Janet was a 911 telecommunicator for the City of Rochester for over eleven years. In this role she received all 911 calls and determined the course of action based on the nature of the call. This required her to be able to think quickly, work under stress, and remain calm when others were not. Of course, she mastered all these traits. Furthermore, she was a classroom instructor in the Pathways to Public Safety Program, and a valued member of the Honor Guard. Prior to her employment as a 911 telecommunicator, she worked for the City of Rochester’s Department of Parks and Recreation as a lifeguard.
While a lifeguard, in the summer of 2006, Janet first laid eyes on a fellow lifeguard, Anthony Jordan, Jr. The next summer Janet and Anthony’s constant phone calls and hanging out after work blossomed into a close relationship. Matter-of-fact, this relationship became so close that Janet and Anthony were married three times! The two were first married on January 3, 2019, before Anthony deployed. The formal service was held on September 5, 2020, after Anthony returned home. And the two married a third time in October 2020 after the couple discovered Janet forgot to check the box on the marriage license to change her last name. Oops! While Anthony fussed because they had to pay for all three marriages, the three services were a visual reminder of Ecclesiastes 4:12, “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
Janet loved to research all subjects, she loved to volunteer, and she loved people’s children! She was known to pop up with gifts and love. Her huge heart will be forever missed! On March 14, 2022, Janet passed from this world to the next. She is survived by her husband, Anthony; mother, Kaye Lynne McEwen (Tracey); stepfather, Gary Saylor; brother, Charles Saylor and stepbrother, Johnny Adams; sisters, Jessica Saylor, Summer Adams, Angelina Adams, Chiara Courtney and stepsister, Victoria Adams; mother-in-law, Frances Rogers; father-in-law, Anthony Jordan Jr. (Kimkena); grandmother, Arlene Courtney; nephews, Michael Saylor and Charlie Saylor Jr.; and other relatives and friends.
