Life story

SPEARVILLE - Sabra Lyn Briggs, 47, passed away Tuesday January 30, 2024 with her family and friends by her side in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Sabra was born March 26, 1976 at Shattuck, Oklahoma. The daughter of James Earl Depew and Clydene Sue Waugh. Sabra graduated from Laverne High School in May of 1994 then received a Bachelor’s in Education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 1998. She taught Elementary School in Kinsley-Offerle and Dodge City before starting at Spearville Schools in 2006. She lived in Spearville and taught Elementary grades, Coached High School Track and participated in everything Spearville. Sabra immersed herself in being the best educator she could be.

Sabra was a mother with strong family beliefs. She knew her family was always the most important thing in the world and everything she did was for her boys. Sabra was the life and soul of any gathering. If you were with her, you were laughing and enjoying every minute of life. She believed in treating people right and always doing the right thing. A dear friend described Sabra as the brightest light in the room, always shining and touching everyone that she was around. She created lifelong friendships wherever she went, no matter how long she was there. Sabra truly loved those crazy trips with her close friends. Doing a walkabout with DR and Jill was always a special time.

Many of Sabra’s fiends have said; “Whenever you were with her, she always made you feel like you were her very best friend. She definitely did all of life with the biggest smile.”

“She was hard not to love. Always the bell of the ball and the life of any event.”

Sabra is survived by her husband, Justin Briggs; 2 sons, Wyatt Heinz and girlfriend Amy Foos, and Blake Werner; step-children, Brandon Briggs his wife Jordyn and their children, Mattie and Elliet, Brenna Helfrich her husband Jared their children, Abram, Adalynn, Emma, James and Ava; her mother, Clydene Waugh; 2 brothers, James Depew and wife Tina and Joseph Depew; sister, Jayna Stephenson and husband Travis; her only niece, Chase Smith and husband Robert; nephews, Hunter Stephenson and wife Karina and Cole Stephenson; along with several cousins, all of her friends and students…past and present.
