"I could make that."
Margaret Theresa Kane (née Kelly) was born in Glasgow on 24th May 1961, to parents Winnie and George Kelly. She was one of five children and grew up loving books, ballet, punk rock, and all things creative. She gained her love of art from her mother and developed a particular talent for dressmaking. In her late teens, Margaret met John and they married on 16th April 1983 (until 2011) and went on to have three children together, David, Louise, and Claire.
Margaret had a great love of reading literature and every home she lived in ended up with its own small library. By her 30s, she had completed her degree in English Literature, followed by a PGDE and went on to become a high school English teacher. She ended up being diagnosed with MS, but this did not dim her light. She continued with her teaching and became involved with MS charities, speaking at their events and raising awareness, whilst making sure her walking sticks were always jazzy.
Margaret later reconnected with Alan from her youth and they married in Pollok House library in 2013. Together, they moved to Rothesay and embraced Island life with a beautiful blue house on the seafront. Margaret left teaching and opened a dressmaking and alterations shop named 'Sew Happy'; a homage to her view on life. She'd spend her days looking out to sea, relaxing with crochet, or at the local pub for a whisky or three!
Margaret had a smile that could light up the room, an incredibly intelligent and creative mind, and had deep love and care for her friends and family. She was taken unexpectedly and far too soon, but she has left a beautiful imprint on everyone around her, and it never fades.
