John was a beloved son, devoted husband, proud father, loving grandfather, and loyal friend. Though he may be gone, the impact of his life and the warmth of his spirit remain with all of us.
John lived life with heart, humor, and humility. He was the kind of man who made everyone feel welcome, whether you were family or a friend — or both. His laugh was contagious, his hugs were genuine, and his presence brought comfort and joy.
He especially loved being with his grandkids, lighting up whenever they were around. Whether playing games, watching videos on his phone, or just soaking in the moment, his love for them was unmistakable.
One of his greatest joys was biking with Mary Jo. Their rides weren’t just about the exercise — they were about togetherness, shared adventure, and enjoying the world side by side.
John also loved time with friends — whether around a fire pit, at a backyard gathering, or just sharing a cold beer and a good laugh.
When fall rolled around, you could always count on him to be tuned into the Iowa Hawkeyes, cheering loud and proud, win or lose with his two sons Matt and Brandon.
We miss him deeply — his voice, his laugh, his company — but we carry him with us in every memory, every shared smile, and every cold beer raised in his honor.
Forever missed. Always remembered. Loved beyond words. Or whatever.
It's been a year, but it feels like yesterday. Football season is here and not seeing you for Hawkeye games or hanging out with you as you wrangle the grandkids is going to be tough. Wish we could go to the Moose or the Chicken Coop to watch some sports and knock back a few beers. Miss you.
John had a way of making everyone feel like family—and for me, he truly did. Every time I saw him, he welcomed me with a warm hug and a smile that made the world feel lighter. No matter what he was going through, he always asked how my day was, always cared, always listened.
That simple, constant kindness meant more than words can say. John’s heart was generous and his presence was comforting. That contagious smile is missed by everyone.
Thank you, John. I miss you ❤️
