Our baby, Our hero, Our everything
Joshua Hunter Bowling was born on Friday September 23, 1994 in Canton, Georgia. His parents are Charlene McGhee and Jason Garmon. Joshua was a only child.
When Joshua was 8 months old he was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis type 1 (short term is called NF1).
It can cause deafness, blindness, retardation, slow learning, tumors... It's a genetic disorder.
Throughout Joshua's life he faced many surgeries and struggles but he never let it get him down. He was always a people person and loved school. Although he had several rough years throughout school, it never stopped him from still wanting to go.
Joshua graduated from Cherokee High School in 2013. They allowed him to stay in school a extra year but his graduation year was 2013.
Joshua was a very hard worker and had so much ambition and determination. He always wanted to make his own money and that's just what he did. He always found something to do to make money. He work with his dad, Jason at his shop for several years then he wanted to start hauling scrap and firewood.
Joshua had tumors on his face and neck his whole life from the NF1 and in 2020 the tumor started growing extremely big. Thats when we found out that it had turned cancerous.
On January 26th, 2021 Joshua went in for his first big surgery to try to remove all the cancer from his face and neck. This was a major surgery and we almost lost him then. After 6 weeks in the hospital, the tumor removal, facial reconstruction, his right ear removed, his vocal chords flattened, a trach, and a PEG (feeding tube) put in, we were sent home.
This was a very long, slow road to recovery. Joshua was very discouraged at times but he still didnt let it get him down.
As we continued on our road to recovery they discovered that the cancer had moved into his lungs. After several more surgeries, radiation, and chemo... It started to get worse over the next couple of years.
Joshua fought one hell of a battle and was the strongest person Ive ever known. He never gave up and no matter the pain, he fought to live. He fought until his last breath.
Joshua was a mamas boy. He made a very big impact on everyone he came in contact with. He was determined, a achiever, and always wanted to work and help others.
He was the biggest inspiration and definitely his family's hero. This world will never be the same without him in it but we hope his legacy lives on forever.
