Micheal Glenn Rankin
Micheal Glenn Rankin was born on February 16, 1955 in Sterling, Oklahoma, to Glenn Franklin Rankin and Barbara (Kirkpatrick) Rankin. He graduated from North Garland High School. After high school he worked at TI and then went to Heating & Air Conditioning trade school. He then moved to Kemp where he met and married Sharron Rodriguez on June 7, 1980.
Mike and Sharron were blessed in 1983 with a son Micheal Kirkpatrick. And then in 1987 they had Parker Franklin. Mike always said God knew what he was doing when he gave us Mikie first because if Parker had been first he may have never talked me into having another one. He loved his boys. He was involved in everything they did. He coached football and baseball. He hauled Parker and his horse to go roping and to rodeos.
In 1998 Sharron and Mike were blessed again when B.J. Rider came to live with them. Mike made sure B.J. made it to check out colleges where B.J. was offered football scholarships. He loved B.J. like his own. He was so proud of all three of his boys. He was so heartbroken when we lost Parker. He cried with me and gave me a shoulder to lean on.
Family is what Mike loved the most. He adored his precious nieces and nephews. He tried to attend everything that they participated in also. And, oh, how he loved his sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws. You could never tell which side of the family was which because he loved them all the same. He always said he didn’t know how he had the most beautiful nieces there ever were. He loved Kim, Michelle, Terra, Keleigh and Holly like they were his. And he had a special bond with his nephews Jeremy and Matt. They all will miss their Uncle Mike.
Mike loved his sisters Debbie and Cheryl. He always felt a need to watch over them. And he loved my sisters Janice and Rhonda. And they all loved him. Mike didn’t have a brother but you would have thought Jerry, Jim and David were his brothers. They all had in common an incredible work ethic.
Mike was one of the hardest working men you will ever meet. He had many customers that are now all his friends. He loved raising cattle and bailing hay. Mike, Jim, David, Mikie, Parker and Jeremey all had this in common. They were some country boys for sure.
Grandbabies brought out a different personality that we had never seen in Mike. He adored them. He played with them and took them on tractor rides. He played dolls with them. They painted his toenails. He tried to attend everything they did. He loved Savannah, Harper and R.J. with all his being. He told me many times if anything ever happened to him to please take care of them.
I will miss Mike more than anyone will ever know. We were married for 41 years. I depended on him and he on me. He would never argue with me. He would tell me something one time and that was it. My sisters saw him mad one time and knew they never wanted to make him mad.
Rest in Heaven, Mike. And give our precious Parker a hug. I will love you always.
