“If someone should ask for me, tell 'em heaven is where I'll be.
I've finished all my life's chores, and now I fish on heaven's shores.
The view is grand and the fishing's great, but I yearn for you as I wait.
I'll save a spot, for all those I call family and friend.
But for now, sail out to sea and make a cast in memory, to all the good times that you had, with me- your friend, your husband...your dad.
And if the fish no longer bite or seem no longer worth the fight, because it's me that you are missin', don't worry - be glad - i've only gone fishin'.
Life story
Glenn Moss Tillman, 56, of Newport, passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at Duke University Hospital.
Glenn was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on April 28, 1965, to the late Harvey and Polly Tillman. His outgoing and carefree personality endeared him to many, he certainly never met a stranger and was always willing to help people with whatever need they may have. There were no words that could describe his accomplishments and the affect he had on people.
Glenn was a hardworking man who worked diligently with his job for 32 years at Nutrien, formerly PCS Phosphate, as a Maintenance Supervisor, where he had many friends and co-workers. He also supported his son and wife with their small family towing business.
As a master craftsman, Glenn could build and fix just about anything. He wasn’t afraid to tackle a job and always finished it with excellence. Building cars was another interest he had, his knowledge and skill were incredible.
As an outdoorsman, Glenn was an avid fisherman who always enjoyed the SKA Tournaments and also taking his friends and family out on his boat which was certainly an exciting time. Racing, camping, and riding his golf cart were other activities he enjoyed. Nothing was better for Glenn than spending time with his family who he loved dearly. His biggest accomplishment in life were being a loving husband of 37 years, exceptional father, and proud grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Tina Spence Tillman of the home; daughter, Ellen Tillman Turnage and husband Jeremy of Newport; son, Glenn Moss Tillman II of Newport; sister, Kathleen Tillman Johnson and husband Clay of Fayetteville; brother, Harvey Edgar Tillman II of Katy, TX; granddaughter, Sefina Grace Tillman; loving in-laws, Freddie and Brigitte Spence of Beaufort; the best Golden Retriever, Halo; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Julia Lorine Tillman; and paternal grandparents, Julia Ellen Tillman and Linton Tillman.
Glenn was just a good man, a good caring father, a good husband, and a good neighbor. Glenn was the most caring, compassionate man I ever met. There is a saying about people like Glenn, that they would give you the shirt off their back, Well the Glenn Tilman I knew would not only give you the shirt off his back he would give you his shoes and socks too, that's just how he was. He would do anything to help anyone . Glenn Tillman was a good hearted man and I will miss him dearly. I have so many great memories of just being with Glenn from going boating, to just drinking beer and just being friends and neighbors. So many memories about Glenn stick in my mind the most is when Glenn and I would see each other in our driveways. He would always say to me WHATS GOIN ON and every time I hear someone say that, I think of Glenn. Glenn, you were a great friend
Glenn was one of the few, who made my job at Phos Acid Operations bearable. He always brought a smile to my face. There's certain people who can brighten a day, and Glenn was a pro at it in my opinion.. Thank You Glenn for Being You
