Andrew Marshall Allen
Andrew Marshall Allen, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on February 4, 2025. Andy was born February 28, 1941, son of Milton Irving Allen and Willis Hall Allen. He grew up in suburban Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, graduating from Nether Providence High School in 1959. He earned an AB from Dartmouth College in 1963 and an MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia in 1965. After graduate school, Andy served briefly in the DC National Guard and the Army Reserve. For over 30 years, Andy worked in account and senior management positions with several major New York City advertising agencies, wrapping up his career at Bozell Worldwide, where he had direct responsibility for the Latin American region and was a member of the board of directors. Key to Andy's very rewarding life was his partner and wife, Diane. She was always his best friend, encourager and inspiration. Andy and Diane raised their family in Armonk, NY, where they lived for 30 years. Andy's free time was spent primarily with family, both at home and traveling. An avid gardener, he enjoyed many activities outdoors, including golf, tennis, kayaking, horseback riding, snorkeling and sailing. Retirement and a move to Seabrook Island in the Charleston area gave him more time for these activities, and for taking classes in history and English literature at area colleges. Andy served on the boards of the Storm Eye Institute and Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach for many years. He enjoyed tutoring, working for Habitat for Humanity, and providing canine therapy with his golden retrievers. He was also an active dolphin educator-ranger on Seabrook. In addition to Diane, Andy is survived by his children, Elizabeth (James) Edgar and A. Tyler (Danielle) Allen, as well as his grandchildren, Nathaniel, Sarah, Charlie, Malcolm, Owen and Ramona; his step-grandchildren, Isabel and Isaiah; step-great-granddaughter, Evelyn; sisters-in- law, Christine and Polly; and beloved nieces, nephew and great-nieces and -nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, David Allen, and his great-nephew, David Allen.
