David Patrick Grond

David Patrick Grond (62), was born June 11, 1960. He passed unexpectedly after a brief illness on September 14, 2022, in McKinney, TX, where he resided.
Dave was born in Muncie, IN to parents Fred & Pat (Holden) Grond. His family moved to Sioux Center when he was in 5th grade. There he met & married his high school sweetheart of 43 years, Brenda (Den Herder) on September 7, 1979. The brightest spots in Dave’s life were his grandchildren & family. He was an avid sports fan cheering on the Cubs, Packers, Chiefs & Hawkeyes. Dave’s heart for service led him to a successful 37 year career at Hy-Vee food store, where he was the embodiment of a helpful smile in every aisle & the ‘Chief Feather Duster’. There, he built many relationships with customers, his employees, and his peers; peers that he enjoyed quarterly guys trips with, until the end. His career brought him all over the Midwest, living in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Illinois & Missouri. He served on the Board of Directors & was a store director for 18 of his years with the company. Dave retired in 2014 & moved to TX to be closer to his ‘princess’ Hannah. He loved spending time on his patio & pool, and daily chats with “Papa” in his prayer chair. Dave was the life of the party, loved to tease those he loved & will be greatly missed by many. He is survived by his Wife - Brenda, Daughter - Hannah & her husband Devin Martinson, Grandchildren - Piper June (3) & Nash Davis (5 mo.), all residing in McKinney, TX. Siblings & their spouses - Nealyn Sue & Jerry Noteboom (Carmel, IA), Jim & Barbara Grond (Greenwich, CT), Lisa & Darren Rensink (Sioux Center, IA), Steve & Greta Grond (Hull, IA), numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews & friends. He was preceded by his parents, Fred and Pat Grond, nephew, Derrick Rensink, and great nephew, Abraham Beukelman.
