Life story

Paul was born on 1/11/94 at 1:11 am weighing 6 lbs. 11 oz. 11 is definitely Paul’s number! He was the only child of Paul & Denise Englert, he was known as PJ or Pauly and lived 19 amazing years. He attended Clarence schools until 2008, at the end of 8th grade, when he then went on to attend and graduate from St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute Class of 2012.

Paul enjoyed woodworking with his grandfather, spending time with his family and friends, playing football starting with the Clarence Bulldogs Little League Football when he was 7 years old, playing goalie in lacrosse for Clarence, BLA, and St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute, golfing and flying in a friend’s small plane. He loved life! He also worked very hard at 3 jobs, one including Brookfield Country Club from the time he was 14 years old starting as a caddy for one year then moving to the bag room where he enjoyed interacting with the members. Paul was also a Georgia football fan-Go Dawgs!

Paul was attending the University at Buffalo in their Civil Engineering program when he passed suddenly from a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in his lung) on 9/19/13. He was a very healthy, active 19-year-old who was in excellent shape.

We had no idea what a PE was until we lost Paul and began doing research. We are now very big advocates for the National Blood Clot Alliance, and we are continually sharing blood clot symptoms and risk factors with the hope of saving the lives of others. You can visit their website at stoptheclot.org to learn about blood clots and if you search Paul Englert, Jr., on their website you can read Paul’s story as well.

We miss his contagious smile and his hearty laugh. According to many of his friends, Paul was ALWAYS laughing and smiling. He was such a happy, big-hearted, all-around good guy who was great at giving advice. He had your back, and he had the ability to cheer people up without even knowing they were having a bad day. He was described by one of his bosses as being an old soul.

The biggest fear of a parent who has lost their child is that they will be forgotten.

Paul WAS here. He DID live. 19 short years.
