Life story

Marlene Morgan Kesler – Eternal Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Friend, Teacher and Disciple of Jesus Christ.

Known for her compassion, cheerful outlook, charity, and unfailing testimony of Jesus Christ. Marlene was an inspired teacher throughout her life teaching pre-school for disadvantaged children in public schools and in many volunteer positions and missionary assignments for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a devoted wife of 51 years and mother of 5 in whom she instilled the same wonderful qualities she possessed. Marlene died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Troy, Michigan in the loving arms of both her husband and her youngest daughter.

Marlene Morgan was born in 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah to W. Spencer and Georgeva Morgan. She lived in homes on the East Bench of Salt Lake with her five sisters and brother – Carol, Judy, Laurie, Spencer, Cheryl and Shauni. She graduated from East High School in 1963 and received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Utah in 1968. As a youth, she attended the Bonneville Stake and 33rd and North 33rd Wards of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. In 1968 Marlene married her eternal companion and husband, Larry Kesler, in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1969 she gave birth to the first of five wonderful and successful children. She is survived by daughters Stephanie (Christopher) and Megan, and sons Steven (Amy), Andrew and Jarom (Andrea). Marlene is grandmother to thirteen grandchildren, including granddaughters Elise, Rachel, Lindsey, Kacy, Sydney, Camilla, Paige and Brooke and grandsons Ryan, Addison, Gavin, Dahlin and Isaac.

Marlene unwaveringly served and loved others throughout her life. Everyone around her felt unconditional love, and she made them feel like they were her favorite. She served as a Primary President in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kettering, Ohio and Cascais, Portugal; Relief Society President in Kettering, Ohio and Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; Seminary teacher for over eleven years in Williamsville, New York and Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; and Stake Relief Society Counselor in the Bloomfield Hills Stake. She served two stake missions in Detroit and Troy Michigan and a Senior Mission as Co-Director of the Perpetual Education Fund in the South East Africa Area from 2004-2006. She was also an Assistant Matron at the Detroit Michigan Temple for five years from 2007-2012. Most recently, she was a favorite teacher of her Relief Society scripture class where her powerful and loving teachings uplifted everyone in attendance.
