Life story

Ben lived each day as a precious gift, battling the relentless grip of Cystic Fibrosis. Time was his constant adversary, ticking away faster than for most, yet he faced life head-on, refusing to let his condition define him. In his 39 years, Ben crammed what felt like a lifetime of experiences, achievements, and love.

Professionally, he soared as the Vice President of Operations at Shepard Exposition Services, but his true victories were found in the everyday joys. Ben thrived in football and basketball leagues, sharing spirited games with cherished friends, but his heart sang loudest when he teamed up with his younger brother Parker. Golf, another passion, offered him solace and challenge in equal measure.

Those who knew Ben intimately knew his simple pleasures: the familiar comfort of Happy Gilmore and Everybody Loves Raymond playing on repeat, his dedication to weightlifting (except cardio), and his legendary sushi feasts at "Top Sushi," where he could effortlessly devour 40 pieces of Nigiri. And who could forget Sunday’s famed Chicken Cutlets, a testament to his love for great food.

A crowning moment in Ben's life was witnessing the Cubs clinch the World Series—a triumph that resonated deeply with his sports-loving soul. Through wins and losses, he remained steadfastly loyal to his beloved teams, particularly the Bears, unwavering in his support regardless of their standings.

Yet beyond these details, Ben’s essence was defined by the raw intensity of his heart. His kindness knew no bounds, his love for those close to him ran deep, and his dedication to the things he cherished—be it family, friends, or his passions—was unwavering. In a world often marked by fleeting connections, Ben's presence left an indelible mark, a testament to a life lived with unmatched passion and authenticity.

To Ben

Ben always was the the biggest supporter of the Indy branch. His upfront personality will always be missed. There was no job to big or small for Ben to handle. When I needed support Ben gave me drive to get the job done. He always treated the Shepard family like they were his own. You will surely be missed. The best way I can honor Ben's life is to make sure his values and pursuit of perfection do not leave with him. This DIB will be for you Ben.

My Friend

Ben, I met you at a time in my life when I was unsure of my future, and where I was heading. But your ability to spot talent was second to none(lol).I have so many great memories with you, I could write for days. Before meeting you I never met anyone so quick witted(except my wife), so sure of themselves, so sure that your way was the only way. That was at work and outside of it.I watched you grow into the man you always said you would be. Of that I had no doubt. You carried your family and friends in your heart and always stayed tru to them. I think that is what I will miss the most. Your drive for life is and will always be unmatched. People sometimes quit when life gets hard. Well my brother- this is hard. I will not quit, i will remember your voice. "Lets go". I miss you my friend & I will forever keep your memory alive. That I promise Ben. Forever Young. Justin Sawyer

The funniest and quick witted person I knew

Dear Ben, you are sorely missed but deeply loved. You were absolutely hysterical, kind, caring and fun to be around. You had the ability to bring laughter to any situation and also lifted the energy in the room. I’ll always remember our competitions in basketball and golf. You also get credit for the best prank that was ever pulled on me. I asked you to ship home a suitcase for me from Indianapolis and you took the time to individually shrink wrap every article of clothing and then the suitcase itself. I never did get you back for that prank. Rest in peace my friend.

To my best friend,

I just want to tell you how proud I am of the man you were becoming. You’re growth throughout the years was a priviledge to watch, even from afar. Although our time on earth was cut too short you will forever live in my heart and through our memories. My daughter will never not know who zio Ben was. I’ll continue to celebrate your life until we meet again. I’ll never forget to “take care and brush your hair”. I want to share my fondest memory of us. It was a dream for you to come to Chicago and see where “pops” ( Larry Ciccotti) grew up. With your love for sports you always dreamed of making it to Wrigley field and soldier field. I feel privledged and blessed that I was able to live out those dreams with you. Thank you for allowing me to be apart of this dream for you. Love you Chubbs!! Forever and always

My Dear Baby Benny

Our journey together began so many years ago, and I miss you every second of every day! I love that I got to watch you grow up! “Who’d a thought...” From the start, your ability to make me laugh, even when I was mad at you, was your most unique superpower! I miss your infectious laughter, sarcasm, and zest for life! Your spirit and the memories of your jokes and laughter will remain in my heart forever.
