Esteban Rodriguez
"Is going to be okay."
Esteban, better known as Stevie by his family and friends, and “Welo,” by his grandchildren was a loving dad, husband, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico in 1946 to Pablo and Luz Maria Rodriguez. With a desire to seek a better future and achieve the American Dream, like many young men from his hometown, left Puerto Rico and arrived in the Bronx to start a new life in 1963. Esteban worked many odd jobs over the years but landed a job at a factory near Tribeca that would change his life. It was here he met and wooed his wife, Mary Flores. Mary and Stevie soon became parents to their only child, Sandra in 1978, and they spent their lives together right here in the Bronx. Stevie dedicated his life’s work to his family. He spent over two decades working as a mail clerk performing hard work in the trenches at Standard and Poor’s. Stevie retired from the firm to become a full-time grandfather. In 2003 and 2007, Stevie earned the title he loved and cherished the most, that of, “Welo.” Savannah and Sebastian brought an entirely new perspective and offered Stevie new chapter in life. He loved his grandkids more than life itself. There wasn’t a birthday, play, graduation, sacrament that he would miss. Until the very end, even while battling for his life, he was always present for his grandchildren. Stevie was predeceased by his parents, brothers Anibal and Wilfredo Rodriguez and his sister Carmen Roque. Countless loving family and friends survive Stevie. But more than anything he will be missed, terribly, and his memory cherished, by his family. Visitation was held on Friday August 10, 2018 from 2-5 & 7-9 PM. A Funeral Service took place on Saturday August 11, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment followed at St. Raymond's Cemetery.
