Wavelene Jane Cardona
Wavelene Jane Lancaster Cardona, age 69, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024, at her home in Stanton, Kentucky. Born in Bowen, Kentucky, on August 1, 1954, to the late Russell Patrick and the late Alwena Spangler Hudson, Wavelene lived a life full of love, laughter, and boundless generosity.
A devoted member of Nada Baptist Church and a dedicated grandmother, Wavelene touched the lives of many through her warm and caring nature. She had a deep love for not only her family but animals as well, especially her beloved dogs, Spanky and Skittles, who brought her immense joy and companionship.
Wavelene, affectionately known as Nanny Wave or old nanny, was the heart and soul of her family. Her fun-loving and carefree spirit, coupled with her radiant inner beauty and unforgettable personality, made her a treasured presence in the lives of all who knew her. She dedicated her life to her friends and family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, filling their lives with warmth, laughter, and endless love. Her sense of humor and zest for life were infectious, bringing smiles and comfort to everyone around her.
Curious by nature, Wavelene loved to connect with her loved ones by calling to ask about their day. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories through shared moments of joy. In her free time, she enjoyed playing bingo with her many friends, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need or less fortunate than herself without expecting anything in return. Her unconditional love and generosity were extraordinary, and her family will forever strive to live by the incredible example she set.
In addition to her parents, Wavelene was preceded in death by her stepfather, Grant George Hudson, her sister, Starlena Patrick, and two grandchildren, Conner Tankersley who is buried here in her arms and Haley Marcum who is buried in this cemetery in baby-land. She is survived by her loving husband, Hector Cardona of Stanton; her two daughters, Tammy (Johnny) Marcum of Versailles and Kristie (Jack) Fields of Clarksville, Tennessee; her brother, George Patrick of Winchester; eight grandchildren, Dustin Marcum, Jonathan Marcum, Nicholas Marcum, Noah Marcum, Caitlin (A.J.) Yewell, Kyle Tankersley, Shawn Tankersley, and Jack Fields, Jr.; and five great-grandchildren, Harper Roth, Roen Carlson, Delena Wilson, Lucas Tankersley and Lorali Waverlee Yewell who was named after her.
Wavelene Jane Lancaster Cardona was a truly remarkable woman whose spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever. She will be deeply missed, but the love and joy she brought into the world will remain as her lasting legacy.
