Douglas Madison Keck
Thank you for your service
Douglas served in the armed forces. We honor that service here.
Douglas "Mr. Pickles" Keck, 91, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at Northbrook Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa surrounded by his caring nurses and staff. A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Murdich-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service is assisting the family.
Doug was born January 8, 1934 in Brookings, South Dakota, the only child to Almer and Lola (Bowen) Keck. The family moved to Muscatine, Iowa and then to Burlington, Iowa where Doug graduated high school in 1954. He attended one year at Iowa State in Ames (even though he was a diehard Hawkeye fan) before joining the Army and going overseas to Germany during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Burlington and married his first love, Marilyn Sue Adey on December 26, 1957.
Doug worked several jobs thru the years including as receiving clerk for JI Case Co in Burlington, driving yellow cab in Burlington, selling life insurance, selling office supplies and re-selling items at flea markets but his most satisfying "job" was volunteering for the Area Agency on Aging in Burlington. Marilyn and Doug were very avid stamp collectors and loved to play cards back in the day, especially bridge. They were both also active with the Paddlewheelers CB Club in Burlington. Marilyn passed away in January 2003.
Doug met Carol Wood in a caregivers chat room and moved to Canada to marry her in August 2003. Carol passed away in June 2016 and Doug moved back home to Iowa.
After relocating to Cedar Rapids to be closer to his daughter, Doug met and married Pamela Hopwood in October 2017. Unfortunately, Pam unexpectedly passed away just four short months later in Febuary 2018.
Survivors include his children: James Keck and Alice of Cedar Rapids; Carilyn (Dell) Morse of Tipton; Tim Keck; John (Colleen) Keck of Port Saint Lucie, FL along with 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his patents; three wives; and one great grandson.
